EMRA's Workers Forum

They're the first one's at the track. First to get on the track. They're happy when you pass them, and disappointed when you don't. They finish every event, but are never in contention for the days end honors. Yet, they are as ecstatic at the end of the day as when it started. They are the volunteers... The backbone of EMRA's Races and Time Trials.

Whether your are new to the administrative\working side of racing or are a seasoned veteran, review this page to see where and how you can become involved.

Why EMRA needs your help???

A day at the track is typically no more than ten(10) hours and within that time a full schedule of practice & qualifying sessions; sprint races and timed runs must go off on cue. Track time is maximized, and lost minutes cannot be reclaimed. A successfully day does not happen by chance; it happens thru the unselfish efforts of the workers.

Before the first driver arrives, EMRA must be ready to start the day. It begins at registration and ends after the trophies are presented. In between, anywhere from 15-25 workers keep the drivers moving, smiling and safe. What actually gets done? and how does it all come together??? The following list summarizes the chores of the day.

Off Track responsibities:
Registration
Chief Steward
Track Liason
Tech Inspector
Timing & Scoring
On Track responsibilites:
Race Control
Corner Captain
Flaggers
Black Flag
Pit Out
False Grid

Waving your first Flags with EMRA....

Flagging and course marshalling admittingly is not for everyone. You must be interested in racing, want to be in the action, and enjoy the occasional whiff of burnt brakes and smoked tires. Its not difficult to learn and quite relaxing in a way only a race fan would understand. Flaggers and marshals with CART, IRL, NASCAR and F1 had waved their first flags with clubs like EMRA. In fact, EMRA is where several CART marshals (who have not forgotten their roots) had gotten hooked. As your experience grows, so too could your responsibilities. EMRA can get you on the "road to the corners" with the training and equipment needed to start you off.

You must 18 years of age and prepared to weather mother nature (sometimes she's nice and other times she's not.) It's not strenuous exercise but will require you to be on your feet for extended periods of time and your complete attention (no cell phones, picture taking, etc.), committment and dedication for the day.

Get involved in the action like few get to experience. If interested contact EMRA's Chief of Flagging -- Bruce at flagging@emraracing.org.

Thanks and see you at the track!!!

Flagger Registration

EMRA recognizes how critical proper flagging coverage is. In effort to assure our events are safely and confidently staffed; we are now accepting pre-event Flagger Registrations. This idea is not new to EMRA; just being introduced as a "program."

The program serves two purposes... (1) it allows EMRA to know what coverage we'll have and what coverage we'll still need on event day. (2) It also provides EMRA with the opportunity to show our gratitude to those committing their time to flag. Experienced Flaggers who pre-register will be reimbursed $50 per day for expenses (lunch, as always, will be on EMRA). You MUST pre-register to be eligible for the reimbursement.

We continue to encourage event day volunteers and are hopefully this program doesn't deter those that want to help but can' t commit ahead of time. The volunteer workers are very important; and although not eligible for the daily reimbursement; EMRA will treat for lunch, and put you in the drawing for the day-end worker reward drawing.

Drivers who wish to flag to fulfill their licensing/championship requirement; may pre-register; though are not eligible for the reimbursement (nor worker drawing) at their first flagged event. Those that choose to flag at later events in the same season; may pre-register and become eligible for the reimbursement and/or "worker drawing."
